Daniel (Jingyang) Cui is a composer whose music examines historical inquiry, philosophy, and contemporary sociopolitical realities. Raised in China and shaped by years lived across Australia and the United States, his work explores the friction between competing geopolitical narratives and lived experience, translating the space between recorded history and daily life into acoustic and electroacoustic sound. Writing across orchestral, chamber, and electronic media, he focuses on developing a direct, rigorous musical language.

His works have been performed by leading orchestras and contemporary ensembles across the United States, Australia, China, Germany, Greece, and Mexico. Currently based in California, he is pursuing a PhD in Composition at the University of California, San Diego.

He was named the First Prize and Orchestra Preference Award winner of the 17th International Dimitri Mitropoulos Composition Competition.
